For four straight years Sun Country Airlines has been among the top ten in Travel & Leisure. Travel & Leisure has listed Sun Country among its top ten for four years running. For four years running Sun Country Airlines has been awarded a top ten position in Travel & Leisure. And that's only the beginning, Conde Nast Traveler has picked Sun Country Airlines for their top honors for three straight years. But that's not the end of their award winning career, Conde Nast traveler has chosen them for top honors three years running. Much about Sun Country Airlines is fairly typical of many airlines because they all operate pretty close to the bone. The air carrier became a full-fledged scheduled airline in June of 1999. Unfortunately that was a very difficult time for all airlines, and then to make matters worse they were embroiled in price wars with each other. They had lost a little over 60 million dollars by 2000.

They suffered irreparable harm by the US governments halt of all domestic flights in response to September 11, 2001 fiasco. Sadly, three months later at the end of 2001 saw the doors close and scheduled flights halted for Sun Country Airlines.

In September of 2010, Sun Country Airlines finally announced that their plan for reorganization to exit bankruptcy has been confirmed. The positive aspect to this is a judge approved their reorganization plan which means they are still able to pursue business. Additionally input will also come from creditors because it is their money that is as stake. When a company undergoes this kind of bankruptcy process, it is the creditors who must be taken care of, and that is the goal of Sun Country. When these processes occur, there is a distribution of value in the form of cash plus equity from the business.

Around Christmas of 2009, the airline made special arrangements to give nearly 80 children a trip to see Santa Claus at the North Pole. They gave it the obvious name: A Flight To The North Pole. The airline worked in association with The United Way to help put this together. The goal was simply to give the youngsters a truly one of a kind and unique Christmas holiday experience. The plane taxied up and down the runway for about half an hour, and the Sun Country employees treated the kids to a big story about flying to the North Pole. Sun Country Airlines is typically considered on the smaller side operating on regional lines. However they do offer some popular destinations to warmer weather. Sun Country was first operated by people working under Braniff Airlines. Braniff went out of business and a pool of experienced and talented airline professionals conceived and founded Sun Country Airlines.
